(Know thyself)。

Welcome to the world of social learning! This course is an entry-level entry into the social world. Émile Durkheim (1858-1917), one of the three great masters of social science, pointed out that the most basic method and task of social science is to break with all preconceived concepts. In this way, we can develop what we call "The Sociological Imagination", which is to explore the complex and dynamic relationship between "personal and society", and to further understand that in this diverse value In the social world, how people integrate, conflict, compete, cooperate, innovate, change... and how different areas of society, such as countries, politics, families, economy, medicine, etc., work.
The specific goals of this course are: learning social problem awareness, analysis methods and diverse views. In this open society with noisy voices and diverse values, everything may not have a standard answer. Understanding the value design and social connection behind different perspectives, as well as their specific development and effectiveness, will be the most important learning goal of this course.
He said, someone asked the ancient Greek philosopher Thales: "What's the hardest?" He replied, "Know thyself." How should we know ourselves? In fact, each of us is self-centered, but at the same time we must be social. What social training can give us is not only about society, but also about ourselves. Who am I? Where does each individual's understanding and view of social phenomena come from? What is the relationship between individuals and society? This is not only the core concern of society, but also the ultimate problem that everyone pursues throughout their life. Social studies may not necessarily be able to directly answer this question instead of individuals, but through social training, it may help you explore two questions related to this: how is the self possible? How is society possible?
This course is divided into two sessions, and is introduced in different topics. Under the objective limitations of the established course structure, we shall not adopt a more structural method separated by a certain area and conducted teaching this course. But please don't forget that there are still some connections between these different and diverse research areas and understanding frameworks. Always maintain an open mind, understand and appreciate this diverse social world, the most abstract and precious asset that society wants to teach you.
