講座緣起：練馬可教授（Mark C. Thelin, 1933-2014）在東海大學社會學系任教32年，曾獲台灣社會學會頒發終身成就獎(2010)。練馬可教授對於本系自由學風以及學系發展卓有貢獻。他曾說：「我的大作就是我的學生」，為東海社會系樹立「尊重知識，善待學生」的典範。
本講座課程由賀榮貞基金贊助，邀請社會學及相關領域近期出版新書的學者分享研究成果，以及新近退休的學界前輩回顧學思歷程，讓本系師生一覽當前台灣社會學景觀，掌握學界脈動，並見賢思齊。
Talk: Professor Mark C. Thelin (1933-2014) taught in the Department of Social Sciences of Donghai University for 32 years and was awarded the Taiwan Social Sciences Final Achievement Award (2010). Professor Ma Ke is very committed to the free learning style and development of the department. He once said, "My masterpiece is my student", and established a classic for the Donghai Social Department to "respect knowledge and treat students well."
