使人類社會變得更好，是社會學的終極關懷。同學研讀社會學之前，必須先確定自己是為台灣社會與全世界人類社會朝向更美好的未來而努力研究，我們是全球人類的一部份，有責任對於人類社會所產生的問題，著手研究並且思考改善方案。
社會學讓我們能洞察、反省事物表面與深層的意義，社會學知識使我們有能力，對現象進行周延的分析。社會學讓我們知道自己所處的社會問題，也瞭解人類社會總體的問題。藉由研究與分析，我們能發展更深入與多元的思考，在行動與觀察中瞭解社會學，更是當今社會學學習的重要趨勢。

本必修課分為上下學期進行。上學期課程主要目標是希望同學能夠瞭解並習慣「社會學觀點與思維」，並且學習從個人與社會多重角度思考問題。下學期的課程將主要以社會學的議題為主軸，並靈活運用上學期的基本概念。

上學期課程以社會學概論，如種族、性別、階級不平等、文化、政治國家概論為主。上學期課程可分二：第一部份主要簡介社會學基本概念與問題意識，並簡介什麼是社會學與社會科學。於此部分我們討論社會學觀點與「非」社會學觀點的差異、常識與知識的差異。第二部份，我們探討社會不平等如何產生，並從社會不平等的概念切入與日常生活相關的社會議題中。主要論題為將以「階層、階級與勞動」、「族群不平等」、與「性別不平等」等切入，藉由此些不平等的社會議題，進一步分析台灣社會現象並瞭解社會學的基本概念與理論。下學期的課程包括，科技與社會研究、宗教社會學研究、國家與政治、消費與社會等。

Making human society better is the ultimate concern of sociology. Before students study sociology, they must first make sure that they are working hard for a better future for Taiwanese society and human society around the world. We are part of global humanity and have the responsibility to start researching and thinking about improvement plans for the problems that arise in human society.
Sociology allows us to gain insight into and reflect on the surface and deep meanings of things. Sociological knowledge enables us to conduct comprehensive analysis of phenomena. Sociology allows us to understand the social problems in which we live, as well as the overall problems of human society. Through research and analysis, we can develop more in-depth and diverse thinking, and understand sociology through action and observation, which is an important trend in today's sociology learning.

This compulsory course is divided into two semesters. The main goal of the last semester's course is to hope that students can understand and get used to "sociological perspectives and thinking" and learn to think about issues from multiple perspectives of individuals and society. The courses in the next semester will mainly focus on sociological topics and flexibly apply the basic concepts of the previous semester.

The course last semester focused on introduction to sociology, such as race, gender, class inequality, culture, and politics. The course last semester can be divided into two parts: the first part mainly introduces the basic concepts and problem awareness of sociology, and introduces what sociology and social science are. In this section we discuss the differences between sociological perspectives and “non” sociological perspectives, and the differences between common sense and knowledge. In the second part, we explore how social inequality arises and move from the concept of social inequality to social issues related to daily life. The main topics will be "class, class and labor", "ethnic inequality", and "gender inequality". Through these unequal social issues, we will further analyze Taiwan's social phenomena and understand the basic concepts and theories of sociology. Courses for the next semester include science and technology and social studies, sociological studies of religion, state and politics, consumption and society, etc.
