社會學是什麼？根據《進擊的社會學家》：「社會學是最酷的學科。真的，還有哪個領域的學科更能讓你看出社會是如何運作或如何運用所學來改變社會？」
使人類社會變得更好，是社會學的終極關懷。同學研讀社會學之前，必須先確定自己是為台灣社會與全世界人類社會朝向更美好的未來而努力研究，我們是全球人類的一部份，有責任對於人類社會所產生的問題，著手研究並且思考改善方案。
社會學讓我們能洞察、反省事物表面與深層的意義，社會學知識使我們有能力，對現象進行周延的分析。社會學讓我們知道自己所處的社會問題，也瞭解人類社會總體的問題。藉由研究與分析，我們能發展更深入與多元的思考，在行動與觀察中瞭解社會學，更是當今社會學學習的重要趨勢。
本選修課之課程目標是希望同學能夠瞭解並習慣「社會學觀點與思維」，並且學習從個人與社會多重角度思考問題，並主要以台灣社會的議題為主軸，希望能靈活運用社會學基本概念。
課程以社會學概論，如種族、性別、階級不平等、文化、政治國家概論為主。課程可分二：第一部份主要簡介社會學基本概念與問題意識，並簡介什麼是社會學與社會科學。於此部分我們討論社會學觀點與「非」社會學觀點的差異、常識與知識的差異。第二部份，我們探討社會不平等如何產生，並從社會不平等的概念切入與日常生活相關的社會議題中。主要論題為將以「階層、階級與勞動」、「族群不平等」、與「性別不平等」等切入，藉由此些不平等的社會議題，進一步分析台灣社會現象並瞭解社會學的基本概念與理論。
What is social science? According to The Advance Socialist, “Social Science is the coolest subject. Really, which field of science can better show you how society works or how it uses what you’ve learned to change society?”
Making human society better is the ultimate concern of social science. Before studying society, we must first determine that we are working hard for Taiwan society and the world's human society toward a better future. We are part of the global human beings and are responsible for the problems arising from human society, and start researching and thinking about improvement plans.
Social science allows us to understand and reflect on the superficial and profound meanings of things, and social knowledge gives us the ability to conduct comprehensive analysis of phenomena. Society allows us to know the social problems we live in and understand the problems of the human society as well. Through research and analysis, we can develop deeper and diverse thinking, and understand social science through actions and observations, which is an important trend in today's social science.
The purpose of this course is to hope that students can understand and engage in "social perspectives and thinking", and learn to think about problems from multiple perspectives between individuals and society, and mainly focus on the issues of Taiwan society, hoping to use the basic concepts of social sciences to flexibly.
The course focuses on social studies, such as race, gender, level inequality, cultural, and political countries. The course can be divided into two parts: the first part mainly introduces the basic concepts and problem perceptions of social science, and introduces what social science is. In this section, we discuss the differences between social viewpoints and “non” social viewpoints, common sense and knowledge. In the second part, we explore how social inequality arises and move from the concept of social inequality to social issues related to daily life. The main topic is to further analyze Taiwan's social phenomena and understand the basic concepts and theory of society based on these unequal social issues.
