本課程之開授旨在引導學生欣賞古今小說中的通俗名著，古今小說的形式樣貌、時代特徵、主題源流、敘事藝術，且觸及通俗小說與社會、文化、思想之關係，期許透過作品選讀和分析，培養學生獨立詮釋通俗小說的審美能力，並由此熟悉通俗小說的特點與時代、社會、文化、思想的關係。
與上學期的小說基本認識有別，本學期的教學重點在分析幾種代表性的通俗小說之人物和環境，由此帶出該類型獨特的審美和批判。

This course is designed to guide students to appreciate popular classics in ancient and modern novels, their forms, characteristics of the times, theme origins, and narrative art. It also touches on the relationship between popular novels and society, culture, and ideas. It is expected that through the selection and analysis of works, students will develop the aesthetic ability to independently interpret popular novels, and thus become familiar with the relationship between the characteristics of popular novels and the times, society, culture, and ideas.
Different from the basic understanding of novels in the last semester, this semester's teaching focuses on analyzing the characters and environments of several representative popular novels, thereby bringing out the unique aesthetics and criticism of this genre.
