透過文本研讀、課堂討論及其他課程活動的設計，我希望帶領學生逐步地認識社會學的內涵與分析方式，期盼能夠開啟學生的「社會學之眼」（the sociological eye），不僅試圖回答上述幾個問題，還能深入反省自己的生命歷程與社會潛在的關連。
貫穿整個學年課程的另外一個主要關懷是社會不平等。人或許生而平等，但在種種結構與機遇因素下，每個人的人生際遇與發展卻是極為不同。能夠理解造成社會不平等的原因與機制，進而突破自己生命中原先不自覺的枷鎖與限制，可能是社會學帶給我們最為珍貴的資產之一（同時也部分回答了上述幾個問題）。
本課程分為上、下兩個學期教授，上學期的課程重心在於介紹社會學的基本原理與學科特質，學習社會學的基本概念、論點與議題，以及培養社會學式的思考能力。下學期則透過一系列不同社會學課題的理論與經驗研究，引領同學更加深刻地認識社會學的博大精深，以能掌握現代複雜多變的社會樣貌與趨勢。

Through text study, class discussions and the design of other course activities, I hope to lead students to gradually understand the connotation and analysis methods of sociology. I hope to open students' "sociological eyes" (the sociological eye), not only trying to answer the above questions, but also in-depth reflection on the potential relationship between their own life history and society.
Another major concern that runs throughout the course throughout the academic year is social inequality. People may be born equal, but due to various structural and opportunity factors, everyone's life experiences and development are extremely different. Being able to understand the causes and mechanisms that cause social inequality, and then break through the original unconscious shackles and limitations in one's own life, may be one of the most precious assets that sociology has given us (it also partially answers the above questions).
This course is divided into two semesters. The focus of the course in the first semester is to introduce the basic principles and subject characteristics of sociology, learn the basic concepts, arguments and issues of sociology, and cultivate sociological thinking skills. In the next semester, through a series of theoretical and empirical research on different sociological topics, students will be led to have a deeper understanding of the breadth and depth of sociology, so as to be able to grasp the complex and ever-changing social landscape and trends of modern times.
