我們所身處的世界，是一個強調個體，並且趨向於在個體身上尋找行動理由的世界。翻開報紙、打開電視，各樣的事件充斥在我們的周邊，多數人談論這些事件時，總是過多強調事件主角的個性、人格以及個體選擇等，卻忽略了人是生活在這個社會之中，人的行為與選擇，有很大一部份受到社會結構的影響與限制。社會學的觀點就在幫助我們理解事情如何牽連在一起，幫助我們穿透表象，理解設我們所身處的世界是什麼樣子、以及我們如何參與在其中。
各位如果到書局翻閱社會學相關的讀本，會看到多數教科書都有著諸如文化、社會制度、社會不平等、社會變遷等章節，但是在表面上相似的章節安排之外，社會學領域內其實有甚多不同觀點相互競逐，因而並不容易找到一個簡單的方式來歸納社會學的意涵。然而，這並不代表社會學只是諸多研究成果的彙總。社會學有著自身獨特的視角，用來觀看我們平日所習以為常的世界。在課程上，將介紹一些社會學如何觀看的視野，並選擇有趣的讀本來達此目的。期盼透過社會學的學習，培養獨立思考的能力、瞭解自我與社會的關係，以及提供觀察與思考各種社會現象的途徑，進而應用到自身之專業領域。

The world we live in is a world that emphasizes individuals and tends to find reasons for action in individuals. When we open the newspaper or turn on the TV, various events are all around us. When most people talk about these events, they always put too much emphasis on the personality, personality and individual choices of the protagonists of the events, but ignore that people live in this society, and their behaviors and choices are largely affected and restricted by the social structure. A sociological perspective helps us understand how things are connected, helping us see beyond the surface to understand what the world we live in is like and how we participate in it.
If you go to a bookstore to read sociology-related books, you will see that most textbooks have chapters on culture, social systems, social inequality, social change, etc. However, beyond the superficially similar chapter arrangements, there are actually many different viewpoints competing with each other in the field of sociology, so it is not easy to find a simple way to summarize the meaning of sociology. However, this does not mean that sociology is just a summary of many research results. Sociology has its own unique perspective from which to view the world we take for granted. During the course, some perspectives on how sociology is viewed will be introduced, and interesting readings will be selected to achieve this goal. I hope that through the study of sociology, I can develop the ability to think independently, understand the relationship between myself and society, and provide a way to observe and think about various social phenomena, and then apply it to my own professional field.
