隨著我國新南向政策的提出，東南亞各國似乎已成為當前我國各界均無法漠視的新興領域。特別是身處於東南亞區域邊緣的我國，似乎應該更加積極應對之；然而，我國各界民眾對於東南亞的認知始終仍不及對歐美、日本和中國大陸的熟悉。或許這也就是我國政府當局雖然有意推動政策，但是成效卻不如預期之關鍵所在吧。
基於此，本課程嘗試從國際關係的學理，嘗試探討當前東南亞的國際現狀和相關課題。就課程的安排上，期中考之前，主要是針對國際關係的基本學理和重要個案，進行探討詮釋(配合理論概念，再透過個案的印證) 。期中考之後，主要是針對東南亞區域的國際衝突及合作案例進行討論，諸如南中國海主權爭端、海洋東南亞的領土爭議、跨國恐怖主義、國際組織和區域經濟整合等議題。
除此之外，在課程進行當中，也同時要求同學定期(期中考後，每週2組)針對東南亞各國的即時新聞資料進行收集整理和報告，期望透過上述理論與個案的印證外，再加上同學們的主動參與，藉此建立同學自主學習的能力和習慣。
With the introduction of our new southward policy, Southeast Asia seems to have become a new area of excitement that cannot be ignored by all sectors of our country. Especially in our country, which is surrounded by the Southeast Asia region, it seems that it should be more positive; however, people from all walks of life in our country still do not know much about Southeast Asia as well as Europe, the United States, Japan and mainland China. Maybe this is the key point that our government authorities are interested in promoting policies, but their results are not as effective as expected.
Based on this, this course tries to explore the current international status and related subjects in Southeast Asia from the science of international relations. In terms of course arrangement, before the midterm exam, we mainly discuss the basic science and important cases of international relations (combined with the concept and then through the seal of a case). After the midterm exam, the main discussion was on international conflicts and cooperation cases in the Southeast Asia region, such as the South China Maritime Rights Responsibility End, the Territorial Controversy in the South China Ocean, the Transnational Terrorism, International Organizations and Regional Economic Integration.
In addition, during the course, students are also required to collect, organize and report real-time news data from various countries in Southeast Asia regularly (after midterm exams, 2 sets per week). We hope that in addition to the above theory and the seal of the case, we will add The students above actively participate in this way to establish the students' ability and habits to learn independently.
