Have you ever felt like you don't fit into a social conversation? Are you lacking confidence in presenting yourself in front of a group or class? This class will help you start a conversation, participate for the entire period, and end it politely. Through adequate class presentations and paired discussions, students will be able to develop their public speaking skills. Additionally, gaining competence in English is another goal of this course.Practice makes perfect—no more social outcasts!
Do you feel out of place in a group? Think you have some social phobia? Do you get nervous every time you give an oral report in your freshman English class?
As long as you have one of the above conditions, you must take this self-expression course. Through a lot of oral practice, you will learn how to respond in English in every situation and express your opinions in the conversation happily. Continue until the end. Just like a proverb in English: Practice makes perfect! You can also express yourself in English freely and calmly.

「大二英文」是一個以學習者為中心的模組化課程。針對學生個人學習興趣及相關系所之專業需求,開設四大模組課程,分別為「職涯與專業」、「日常溝通」、「多元文化」以及「自我表達技巧」。四大模組分別由具有共同核心目標但涵蓋不同主題之課程所建構而成。所有的課程均以學期為單位,學生根據個別興趣及需求,必須於兩學期選擇兩門不同的模組課程。本課程結合討論、展演及實作等各類學習活動,讓學生能在更多元、自主的學習語境中,具體強化其英語文溝通能力。
本課程屬於「自我表達技巧」模組,透過多元題材與多媒體資源提升教學成效,協助學生增進英語聆聽與口說能力,具體提升學生的表達能力與自信,並精進其英語簡報及演說技巧。
The SENM program is a student-centered module-based program which offers students choices and interactive classes. The program encourages students to tailor their English learning to their specific needs and interests by offering four semester-based modules: Career and Profession, Daily Communication, Multiculturalism, and Self-Expression Skills. Additionally, within each of the four modules, there are different themes, or topics, around which each course‘s curriculum is built. Each SENM student must choose two different module courses in two semesters according to their interests and needs. A variety of class activities such as discussions, role plays, and presentations is incorporated into the program to provide a more effective and productive learning environment for the students.
This specific course belongs to the Self-Expression Skills Module. This module enhances students’ oral presentation techniques. It also helps students to improve their listening skills and boost their confidence in public speaking.
Course Objectives:
On completion of the course, students should be able to
1) deliver a variety of formal and informal presentations in English;
2) present ideas clearly with emphasis on effective use of verbal and nonverbal communication skills;
3) demonstrate critical thinking skills in daily life communication, both as a speaker and as a listener; and
4) express their ideas in English more confidently.
"Sophomore English" is a learner-centered modular course. Based on students' personal learning interests and professional needs of relevant workplaces, four major module courses are offered, namely "Career and Professional", "Daily Communication", "Multiculturalism" and "Self-Expression Skills". The four major modules are constructed from courses with a common core goal but covering different topics. All courses are offered in semester units. Students must choose two different module courses in two semesters based on their individual interests and needs. This course combines various learning activities such as discussions, performances, and practicals to allow students to concretely strengthen their English communication skills in a more diverse and independent learning context.
This course belongs to the "Self-Expression Skills" module. It uses diverse topics and multimedia resources to improve teaching effectiveness, help students improve their English listening and speaking skills, specifically improve students' expression ability and confidence, and refine their English presentation and speaking skills.
