大學生在美麗的校園裡學的主要是「如何做事」,不論那一個學系教導的總是各種專業的知識與技巧,幫助學生去做事。累積一百多個學分,獲得文憑,經過甄選進入職場,成為「上班族」,開始工作。接著就是一連串做事與做人的考驗,才發現對於組織、對於組織人的角色、對於待人接物,所知有限。因為大學裡少有課程專門討論「如何做人」,尤其是在組織裡做人。本課程就是在這方面強化學生的能力。College students mainly learn "how to do things" in a beautiful campus. 社會工作系同學畢業後,通常加入組織工作,需要承上啟下,又需要對外聯繫,扮演各種角色。但是,對上、對下、對內、對外等挑戰,並沒有接受嚴謹的學理訓練。本課程就是要強化這些方面的能力。
現代社會是由組織所構成,現代人幾乎都是組織人,社會工作此一專業也常透過組織去推動。組織溝通既複雜又單純,複雜的是人與人際間的關係組合。單純的是只有三個要素。任何組織圖都是由這三個要素所組成,一是方塊,表明職位,每個職位有根本該做的事;兩條線,一個是上下的指揮,一個是平行的聯繫。
如何認識、適應、分析進而改變組織是任何組織人的挑戰,本課程幫助學生認識與分析組織,以利在組織理有好的表現,實踐在社工專業方面所學。
組織行為是在組織之中的,學習本課程應該從組織的角度去分析與探究有那些框架、那些先存的力量,然後瞭解組織人如何在既定的架構中生存、發展、改變。
本課程透過多項心理測驗協助學生瞭解與學習。
