一個完整的政治學門的訓練，應含括本體論、知識論與方法論三個面向，政治學方法論主要集中於後兩者，本課程為政治系國際關係組及政治理論組的必修課程，其重要性可見一般，學生經由此三學分的學期訓練之後，能對政治科學的演變，尤其從古典的實證學派到後實證學派，乃至於政治科學的未來展望，能有一個深度的認知，此課程也為同學將來報考國內研究所甚至出國深造奠定良好的基礎。A complete training of a political school should include three aspects: intrinsic theory, knowledge theory and methodology.
