Introduction to Literature" is a compulsory introductory course for all Chinese students to enter the world of literature. It naturally has a stepping stone meaning: it is hoped that through such a course, students can have a preliminary understanding of what literature is, and besides being a purely enjoyable reader Besides, what other ways do we have to gain insight into the subtle and rich codes hidden in each text and become a "professional reader" ourselves?
Let students understand "what literature is" - such a broad teaching goal is actually not easy to achieve. The difficulties include: If literature is a university subject, how can we explain it clearly through an "introduction"? As for switching from entertainment reading to serious reading, will it destroy our original pure enthusiasm for literature?
In fact, "What is literature?" should be the first question that students from the Chinese Department ask themselves after entering this department; and you will answer this question through the next four years, or even your whole life: What is literature? What does it mean to you "self"? Only by reading more and more works and accumulating more life experiences can you slowly come up with your own thoughts on this issue; or as your life experiences change and your vision changes, The way you answer this question is different at every stage of life. And this process of continuous exploration and thinking is like experiencing one gorgeous adventure after another in the literary world. At this moment, the journey is about to begin.
"Because words are everything in a work, reading the words slowly is the only way to truly read the body of the work. A concerto with four movements in a volume cannot be listened to in less than ten minutes as quickly as possible. An ideal reader should be like an ideal reader Classical music listeners do not miss every note (word), even the rest (punctuation mark)." - Wang Wenxing's "Family Change".
In this course we will focus on the reading and feeling of texts, including three text types: poetry, drama and novels. Think about issues through careful reading of the text, including the meaning of each word and symbol, the characteristics of different literary forms, what is literary style, and the world set up by the text and the world it may correspond to. "Reading" is the key to unlocking the world of literature. We hope that students will not rush to find answers from literary works, but patiently follow the trajectory of the text, and travel between the text, the world, and themselves in the process of navigation. You will also leave your own reading mark and gradually develop the ability to evaluate works. In the process of reading each text, students will also be led to try to enter the world of literary history and literary theory. In addition to serving as a foundation for professional training for Chinese students, we also hope to inspire everyone to have richer text analysis abilities and perspectives. .
本課程除介紹各種文學類別(詩歌、小說、散文、戲曲、電影)之風格特色外,也包含文學功能、文學批評、文學類別、文學傳播等基礎文學理論與概念,並擬藉由文學知識的引介,讓學生能掌握文學與其他學科的關聯性,如語言學、歷史學、心理學等,透過古典、現代相關文本的閱讀與理論印證,擴展學生的文學視野與知識。可作為後續文學發展史、文學批評史之基礎課程。

It is intended to be based on the knowledge of literature. Introduction allows students to grasp the correlation between literature and other disciplines, such as linguistics, history, psychology, etc., and expands students' literary vision and knowledge through the reading and theoretical verification of classical and modern related texts. It can be used as a basic course for subsequent literary development history and literary criticism history.
