War and International Security

Course Target

Today's academic discussion on international security has long gone beyond concepts such as military defense. The course "War and International Security" will start from traditional international security discussions, gradually extend to the development of modern international security, and explore emerging concepts such as information warfare that have attracted attention from all walks of life in recent years.

In the traditional international security section, this course first clarifies the basic concepts of international security, and based on traditional international relations theories (including realism, neorealism, liberalism, neoliberalism, etc.), discusses how past scholars have reshaped the concept of security, and explores how to introduce the concepts of various cooperative institutions to ensure national security. At the same time, this course will also discuss the limitations of traditional international relations theory in discussing the interactive behavior of states, and extend to the second part to explore the interaction between states through models and empirical analysis.

In the second half of the semester, this course will introduce the latest discussions on non-traditional international security, extend the discussion to international security issues arising from other human behaviors, and delve into information warfare.

Through this class, students will be able to more comprehensively understand the development process of the international security discipline and its related research, learn the basic theories of international relations, and master empirical research and recent research progress related to international security. In addition, students will be able to understand and apply this knowledge to analyze current non-traditional conflicts between state and non-state actors.
