教育目標 Course Target
質性研究是人文社科領域重要的研究方法,也是社研所必修的方法學課程之一,近年來隨著「社會調查師」的建制化,質性研究的應用價值也越來越受到肯定、運用範圍越來越廣,是增進綜合性知識學習的好工具。本門質性研究於2025年課程改革後改為大三的必修課,希望在大二的社會科學研究方法課程的基礎之上,進一步深化質性研究的學習。秉持跟研究所課程相同的「做中學(learning by doing) 」的精神,課程的進行除了課堂講授、文本教材的導讀提問外,還包括田野調查實作,課程將協助同學進入田野進行實地訪調,並設計可行的研究題目,來具體操作相關的質性方法內容,從而讓研究能力能夠內化到學習者的身上,得到有效的吸收。
本課程主要學習的質性方法包括參與觀察、深度訪談、民族誌、紮根理論、個案延伸,加強紮根理論的編碼(coding)訓練、舉辦四周工作坊。本課程重視分組討論與田野實作,提供兩個田野作為共同的田調場域:
(一) 上東別新東里社區(10/22戶外舉辦教學,全班同學都須參加)
(二) 中部地區音樂祭(如10/11-10/12「搖滾台中」,免門票,自由參加)
本課程將以小組的方式進行田野實作,以四到五位同學為一組,在每一組當中,又以兩位同學為一個"二人組"單位,來執行深度訪談。每個"二人組"必須完成一個50分鐘以上的深度訪談及逐字稿。最後四周的工作坊將以各組的研究內容為核心,扣著執行進度進行工作坊討論。
老師和助教會協助同學進入田野,同學必須認真參與小組的田調實作,操作參與觀察與深度訪談,以在此基礎上建構研究對象、提出研究問題,並且在期末完成一份研究報告,於期末發表會進行15-20分鐘的研究成果簡報。
在作業部分,每位同學須繳交兩份閱讀Memo、期中與期末報告及一份「田野筆記」。各小組須認領教材進行導讀,繳交期中與期末分組報告。期末書面報告須在附錄附上至少六份的田野筆記和150分鐘的訪談逐字稿。

Qualitative research is an important research method in the field of humanities and social sciences. It is also one of the required methodology courses for social research institutes. In recent years, with the establishment of "social investigators", the application value of qualitative research has been increasingly recognized and its application scope has become wider and wider. It is a good tool to enhance comprehensive knowledge learning. This qualitative research course will be changed to a required course for junior students after the curriculum reform in 2025. It is hoped that based on the social science research methods course for sophomore students, the study of qualitative research will be further deepened. Adhering to the same "learning by doing" spirit as the graduate courses, the course not only includes classroom lectures and introductory questions on text textbooks, but also includes fieldwork practice. The course will assist students to conduct field interviews and design feasible research topics to specifically operate relevant qualitative method content, so that research abilities can be internalized into learners and effectively absorbed.
The main qualitative methods studied in this course include participant observation, in-depth interviews, ethnography, grounded theory, case extension, strengthening coding training of grounded theory, and holding four-week workshops. This course attaches great importance to group discussions and field practice, and provides two fields as common fields for field investigation:
(1) Upper Tobetsu Shintori Community (Teaching held outdoors on 10/22, all students in the class must participate)
(2) Central region music festival (such as 10/11-10/12 "Rock Taichung", free admission, free to attend)
This course will conduct fieldwork in groups, with four to five students forming a group, and within each group, two students will form a "duo" unit to conduct in-depth interviews. Each "duo" must complete an in-depth interview of more than 50 minutes and a verbatim transcript. The last four weeks of workshops will focus on the research content of each group and conduct workshop discussions based on the implementation progress.
Teachers and teaching assistants will assist students in entering the field. Students must carefully participate in the field operation of the group, conduct participant observation and in-depth interviews, and construct the research object and raise research questions on this basis. They must also complete a research report at the end of the period and give a 15-20 minute presentation of the research results at the end of the period.
In the homework section, each student is required to submit two reading memos, midterm and final reports, and a "field note". Each group must collect teaching materials for introduction and submit mid-term and final group reports. The final written report must be accompanied by at least six field notes and a verbatim transcript of a 150-minute interview in the appendix.

Students will be given the opportunity to critically appraise qualitative research studies from their own research fields both individually and in seminars. Through active participation in seminars, different ways of collecting/generating and analyzing qualitative data will be discussed and analysed. In addition, in the form of a written assignment, students will plan their own qualitative studies and describe how they would carry out an analysis. This course offers a hands-on opportunity for graduate students to experience the practice of qualitative research. The course will require a moderate investment of time, with academically necessary reading and writing, recurrent team discussions based on assignments, and individual fieldwork. Teaching is in English and in the form of a course introduction, lectures and seminars.
