本課程旨在透過教師講述來達到認識西方自史前時代至現代藝術初期的發展脈絡,當中自原始藝術到文藝復興以至現代藝術初期各時期的藝術特色、風格和代表作品的評賞,讓學生瞭解藝術起源和演變的情境因素,提升對於西方藝術作品的審美素養,並藉此增強個人藝術創作與社會、環境、個人之間的脈絡關係。
同時通過對特定主題、作品、時代氛圍或藝術家的資料蒐集與閱讀,書寫成具備基本學術價值的學期報告,藉以養成學術研究的基礎能力。This course aims to understand the artistic characteristics, style and representative works of the West from prehistoric times to the early stages of modern art through teachers' lectures, and to give students an appreciation of the artistic characteristics, styles and representative works from the primitive art to the rejuvenation of literary arts and even the early stages of modern art, so that students can understand the The situational factors of art origin and evolution enhance the aesthetic cultivation of Western art works, and thereby enhance the relationship between personal art creation and society, environment, and individuals.

本課程範圍分為兩部分。第一部分為古典西洋美術史,以時序發展為主,涵蓋範圍從史前文明至十九世紀印象派。第二部分著重在現代主義,以運動、派別及形式等作為主要分類。
