This course covers two main areas: one is the basic theory of international relations and models of conflict processes; the other focuses on the application of these theories, including how to digitize these concepts and choose reasonable methods to measure the various variables mentioned in the theory.

This course is designed to review international relations theories introduced in introductory courses, including realism, neorealism, liberalism, and neoliberalism, and to extend these understandings to a more objectively measurable level to support more rigorous social science research.

In this course, students will learn the basic theories of international relations, specifically those that describe the behavior of states before a conflict occurs. Students will also learn how to quantify data from cases using previous research methods to support these theories. In addition, students will understand how these scholarly developments open up contemporary discussions of the establishment of international organizations and apply to current non-traditional conflicts between states and non-state actors.
