課程討論總體經濟基礎觀念與問題，包括所得與就業、國民產出、通貨膨脹、貨幣、利率、投資與儲蓄、景氣循環與經濟失衡、貿易與經濟成長等問題，並探討政府之經濟政策，包括財政政策、貨幣政策與國際經濟政策等，訓練學生具備總體經濟分析之基礎理論與工具，並養成對經濟波動成因之瞭解及預測分析之能力。總體經濟學分析世界經濟體所發生的事件，例如中美貿易戰、西歐的高失業率、烏俄戰爭、美國的預算赤字、歐洲的整合，以及COVID-19對世界經濟的影響等。

本課程介紹各總體學派的理論內容與政策涵義，並探討政府在經濟社會扮演的角色。內容涵蓋古典學派、凱因斯學派、貨幣學派、新興古典學派、新興凱因斯學派、實質景氣循環、供給面學派與經濟成長理論。
