課程概述 Course Description

The SENM program, an extension program of the FENM program, is a student-centered course focusing on students′ learning needs and interests. The course design features a small-class (no more than 25 students) learning and four modules. These four modules are: Multiculturalism, Presentation and Public Speaking, Career and Profession, and Daily Communication. All modular courses are semester-based; so each SENM student can choose two different modules according to their individual learning needs in one academic year. Within each module, there are different sub-themes, or topics, around which the course curriculum is built. Various class activities such as discussions, exhibitions, competitions, and presentations are incorporated to strengthen students′ English competence. This specific course belongs to the Module of Daily Communication. This module emphasizes real-life English for effective communication. It provides conversation models and practices for a variety of common scenarios in everyday life. Apart from daily-life vocabulary, frequently-used colloquial and idiomatic expressions are the two major language components covered. Course Objectives: On completion of the course, students should be able to 1) use effectively the vocabulary and expressions acquired in the course to address daily-life topics; 2) use spontaneously the conversation strategies acquired in the course to initiate, sustain, and end communication; 3) communicate with others effectively in various daily-life situations; and 4) express themselves in English more confidently.
"Sophomore English" is an extension course of "Freshman English". This course will conduct modular English teaching in a small class of 25 people, practice the learner-centered teaching concept, and offer four major modular courses based on students' personal learning interests and professional needs of relevant institutions, namely "Diversified Culture", "Presentations and Speeches", "Career and Professionalism" and "Daily Communication". All module courses are based on semesters. Students can choose different module courses according to their personal learning needs in the first and next semesters. The four module courses are constructed from courses with common core objectives but covering different topics. Combining various learning methods and activities such as discussions, performances, competitions and practical activities, it is expected that students can concretely strengthen their English communication skills in a more diverse and autonomous learning context. This course belongs to the "Daily Communication" module, which emphasizes the connection between English learning and real life. Through various conversation examples and exercises, students can apply what they have learned in daily life. In addition to daily life vocabulary, commonly used spoken language and idiomatic expressions are also the core content covered by this module.
