Debate Skills: Getting Started
Debate employs all four zones of literacy: reading, writing, speaking, and listening through a high level of critical thinking: Argumentation. Students learn how to arrange their thoughts coherently and authoritatively, and employ several 21st Century skills through the use of technology, collaboration, and civic awareness. These skills prepare students for in college, as well as in their career paths.
On completion of the course, students should be able to
1) deliver a variety of formal and informal presentations in English;
2) present ideas clearly, be able to execute effective use of verbal and nonverbal communication skills;
3) demonstrate critical thinking skills in daily life communication, both as a speaker and as a listener; and
4) express their ideas in English more confidently.Debate involves a full combination of listening, speaking, reading, and writing four language skills with critical thinking. In this course, students will learn how to improve the logic and induction ability of expression. Through relevant technology, teamwork, and the awakening of citizen consciousness, master the 21st century thinking skills, so that you can prepare for your college career and future career development.

「大二英文」為「大一英文」之延伸課程。本課程將以25人小班制進行模組化之英語教學,實踐以學習者為中心之教學理念,針對學生個人學習興趣及相關系所之專業需求,開設四大模組課程,分別為「多元文化」、「簡報與演說」、「職涯與專業」以及「日常溝通」。所有的模組課程均以學期為單位,學生於上、下學期可針對個人學習需求選擇不同的模組課程。四大模組課程分別由具有共同核心目標但涵蓋不同主題之課程所建構而成。結合討論、展演、競賽及實作等各類學習方式與活動,期待學生能在更多元、自主的學習語境中,具體強化其英語文溝通能力。
本課程屬於「簡報與演說」模組,透過多元題材與多媒體資源提升教學成效,協助學生增進英語聆聽與口說能力,具體提升學生的表達能力與自信,並精進其英語簡報及演說技巧。
The SENM program, an extension program of the FENM program, is a student-centered course focusing on students′ learning needs and interests. The course design features a small-class (no more than 25 students) learning and four modules. These four modules are: Multiculturalism, Presentation and Public Speaking, Career and Profession, and Daily Communication. All modular courses are semester-based; so each SENM student can choose two different modules according to their individual learning needs in one academic year. Within each module, there are different sub-themes, or topics, around which the course curriculum is built. Various class activities such as discussions, exhibitions, competitions, and presentations are incorporated to strengthen students′ English competence.
This specific course belongs to the Module of Presentation and Public Speaking. This module enhances students′ oral presentation techniques. It also helps students to improve their listening skills and boost their confidence in public speaking.
Course Objectives:
On completion of the course, students should be able to

"Sophomore English" is an extended course of "English". This course will conduct an modular English teaching based on the 25 -person small class system. Practice the teaching philosophy centered on learners. Aiming at students' personal learning interests and professional needs of related departments, four major module courses are opened, namely "diversified diversification Culture "," briefing and speech "," career and professional "and" daily communication ". All module courses are based on semester. Students can choose different module courses for personal learning needs in the last and next semester. The four major module courses are constructed by courses with a common core goal but covering different themes.
