道教思想的來源非常悠久，文化內涵相當豐富。可惜的是，過去中國思想史的著作通常對道教都很少著墨，而現代人對道教的印象也始終停留在許多不可盡信的民間傳說，還有各地崇祀的地方神明，很少認知到道教同屬於有系統、有制度、有深刻教義的高等宗教。課程的設計以魏晉六朝時期的天師道和上清派為主，希望能讓修課同學對道教的基本內涵建立正確的認識。同時，也透過齋醮、符籙、懺罪、承負、存神、服氣、金丹、房中、死亡、洞天福地等專題，帶領學生認識道教思想在各方面的表現。修課同學應選擇相關專題，自行搜尋資料撰寫期中報告一篇。完成課程之後，同學應能有根據的反思「道教」之「道」的內涵，而不至於和民間習俗中的降乩、斬雞頭或小說中的茅山道術等等混淆。

Taoist thought has a very long history and rich cultural connotations. It is a pity that in the past, works on the history of Chinese thought rarely mentioned Taoism, and modern people’s impression of Taoism has always been limited to many untrustworthy folk legends and local gods worshiped in various places. They rarely realize that Taoism is a high-level religion with a system, system, and profound teachings. The design of the course is mainly based on Tianshi Taoism and Shangqing Sect during the Wei, Jin and Six Dynasties, hoping to enable students to establish a correct understanding of the basic connotation of Taoism. At the same time, students are also led to understand the manifestations of Taoist thought in various aspects through special topics such as fasting, talismans, confession, responsibility, keeping the spirit, admiration, golden elixir, house, death, cave heaven and blessed land. Students taking the course should choose relevant topics and search for information on their own to write a midterm report. After completing the course, students should be able to reflect on the connotation of "Tao" in a well-founded way, without being confused with the folk customs of sacrificing rites, beheading chicken heads, or Maoshan Taoism in novels, etc.
