教育目標 Course Target

課程內容與介紹: 本課程旨趣在於教授「量化研究」的邏輯與思維,也會討論常用的量化研究方法。考量到同學完成學位論文的實際需要,選擇教授的量化研究方法以實用性及可行性為優先。要留意的是,雖然在社會科學研究中有質性vs.量化研究之爭,但好的研究-無論量化或是質性-要關注的研究設計與因果推論的元素是一致的,因此本課程將特別注重這兩方面的訓練。 其他教學目標包括:提出適合量化研究的提問、培養基本統計概念與資料分析能力,增進閱讀社會科學量化研究論文的理解度等等。希望透過本課程,加強同學應用計量研究的能力,並奠定未來學習新興計量研究方法與技術的基礎。 要特別說明的是,量化研究方法在種類與應用上,與統計學關係密切。許多比較「複雜艱深」的量化方法如存活分析(Survival analysis)、成長曲線(Growth curve)、階層線性模型(HLM)等,都涉及所謂的進階統計學知識與技巧,學習門檻很高。即使本課程僅規劃教授社會科學研究中最常見的多元及邏輯迴歸(multiple regression and logistic regression),對僅學習過基本統計學,或是甚至沒有任何統計概念的研究生而言,修習本課程將會面臨一定的難度。即使如此,基礎的量化研究思維與邏輯,並不需要統計背景才能學習;一些應用廣泛的量化研究法如調查研究(survey research),也未必需要相當的統計知識才能體會。特別是現今統計軟體發達,統計資料的取得與分析相對變得容易。因此,在教學策略上,我們會複習基本統計學知識,以在足夠的基礎上繼續學習較為進階的統計概念與量化方法。 Course content and introduction: The purpose of this course is to teach the logic and thinking of "quantitative research", and it will also discuss commonly used quantitative research methods. Considering the actual needs of students to complete the dissertation, the selection of the professor's quantitative research method is preferred by practicality and feasibility. It should be noted that although there are qualitative VS. quantitative research disputes in social science research, good research -regardless of quantitative or qualitative -the research and design that must be concerned is consistent with the elements of causal inference, so this course is therefore It will pay special attention to these two aspects of training. Other teaching goals include: ask questions suitable for quantitative research, cultivate basic statistical concepts and data analysis ability, enhance the understanding of the understanding of the essays of quantitative research on social sciences, and so on. It is hoped that through this course, we will strengthen the ability of students to apply measurement research, and lay the foundation for future learning methods and technologies to learn emerging measurement. It should be specifically explained that quantitative research methods are closely related to statistics in terms of types and applications. Many "complex and difficult" quantitative methods such as Survival Analysis, Growth Curve, and Class Linear Model (HLM) involve so -called advanced statistical knowledge and skills, and the threshold for learning is very high. Even if this course is only planned for the most common diversity and logical regression in social science research (Multiple Regentic Regression), for graduate statistics that have only studied basic statistics or even without any statistical concept, this course will be able to practice this course. Facing a certain difficulty. Even so, basic quantitative research thinking and logic do not require statistical background to learn; some widely used quantitative research methods such as Survey Research may not require considerable statistical knowledge to experience it. Especially today's statistical software is developed, and the obtaining and analysis of statistical data is relatively easy. Therefore, in teaching strategies, we will review basic statistical knowledge to continue learning more advanced statistical concepts and quantitative methods based on sufficient basis.
