本課程除了介紹自上古以來，歷朝的醫藥學發展與代表著作外，同時利用通俗小說的部分情節，引領修課同學領略古代庶民生活中進行醫療活動的情況。每週課題將結合民眾生活與醫療活動，循歷史脈絡下探討傳統中國的醫學發展。課程內容包括：醫者與醫療活動、醫學知識的傳播、中醫學的身體觀、性別與醫療、保嬰與幼幼、祝由科與情志療法、養生與食療文化、邪祟與祟病、宗教醫療、中醫外科、檢驗與法醫學、衛生與醫療以及中國醫療的現代性等項目，帶領修課同學領略傳統中醫學的悠久傳承，並且與民眾生活息息相關的一面。
