Product development is a compulsory course in the junior year of the Industrial Design Department. It continues the basic design of the freshman year and the product design course of the sophomore year. It mainly focuses on consumer psychology, market demand, product concept design, detailed design and process, and mass production. and achieve marketing goals to strengthen the product development process. The teaching objectives of this course are oriented towards strengthening industry-university cooperation and cultivating students to achieve the five professional design powers of this department - "creativity, aesthetics, science, learning and dialectics", and are based on the following directions:
1. Discuss the goals of product development from the perspective of shape/communication/social concern (green) design, human factors engineering, and cultural differences.
2. Develop product development planning capabilities and market sensitivity through market questionnaires on this theme product.
3. Through the product development methods, strategies, and evaluation analysis of this topic, complete the design process and complete the conceptual design of the product to understand the procedures and applications of product development.
4. Be familiar with computer-aided design, computer-aided manufacturing, manufacturing procedures, materials science, and mechanism science, achieve and apply them in industrial product development, and complete engineering drawings and detailed design.
5. Strengthen design and implementation model (prototype) production capabilities.
6. Describe the mold, parting, production process and mass production discussion of this product.
7. Product development case writing exercises and expression skills training.
8. Intellectual property rights and patent design application work.
This course aims at two to three topics each semester. Three teachers take turns to be responsible for setting the topics. According to the nature of the topics, specifications and requirements are set to achieve the implementation, practice and presentation of the product development special units in each stage. Junior students taking this course should have passed freshman basic design and sophomore product design, have the ability to use AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Pro/E and other related 3D graphics drawing software, and be familiar with various manufacturing machines, such as: Professional capabilities in the operation and use of rapid prototyping machines, CNC cutting centers, die-cutting machines, laser cutting and engraving machines, etc., with the goal of being able to carry out complete rapid product development capabilities.
