這是一門大學部三年級的必修課，也是大三這一年的重頭戲，主要的目的在於訓練社會學系的學生進行社會學研究的方法。因此「社會研究方法」在引導你如何使用研究方法，熟悉作為一位社會學學生必須掌握的研究之道。這門課將介紹社會研究方法的基本概念與過程，具體內容包含量化與質化的研究方法，使得學生對社會學的經驗研究有一定程度的了解；上學期的課程將以基本概念與量化方法為主，下學期將進入量化分析實作，以及質化研究方法。希望經過這一學年的訓練，你可以瞭解量化與質化研究的優缺點，欣賞不同研究取徑的優美之處。
社會研究必須透過嚴謹的社會研究方法逐步形成，透過嚴謹研究方法得到的研究結論才具有價值與意義，因此社會研究方法在社會學的訓練中具有重要性。然而，這並不意味走出社會學大門，「社會研究法」就與你無關，因為舉凡任何需要系統性瞭解社會現象時，「社會研究方法」都不會讓你失望，它可能成為你未來就業時的一種謀生工具。This is a third-year compulsory course in a university department and the focus of the junior year.
