城市及都市社會乃是集合人類文明的精華所成，根據聯合國的統計，2008年居住在城市裡的人口超過鄉村，有33億人以都市為家。一千萬人以上的大都市有19個，到2025年將暴增到25個。預計到本世紀中葉2050年時，將有70%的地球人都住在都市裡。研究人類都市及都市社會已經是一重要課題；二十世紀初至今，有各種不同學科及學術領域均致力於研究城市及都市社會，形成一專門的學科，但其內容廣泛與複雜而有不同的論述。本課程強調就社會學的觀點和近期的理論發展來探討城市與都市社會。早期的都市社會學大致上都是以人文生態觀點研究都市社會，七O年代馬克斯主義的批判和空間之社會意涵的理論與研究興起，尤其在全球化的趨勢下，造成此學科內容重大更動。因此，本課程加強介紹新都市社會學與空間之研究，以期對目前與未來的都市發展與研究有更清晰的認識。Urban and urban society are created by the essence of human civilization. According to the United Nations' statistics, in 2008, the population living in cities exceeded villages, and 3.3 billion people regarded the city as their home. There are 19 metropolitan cities with over 1,000 people, and will soar to 25 by 2025. It is expected that by 2050, 70% of the people on earth will live in cities. Research on human cities and urban society has become an important subject; from the 20th century to the present, various disciplines and academic fields have been dedicated to studying urban and urban society, forming a specialized subject, but its content is broad and complex and has different arguments. This course emphasizes the views of social science and recent theoretical developments to explore urban and urban societies. Early urban society generally studied urban society based on the perspective of humanistic ecological perspectives. The criticism of Marxism in the 1970s and the theory and research on social implications of space emerged, especially under the trend of globalization, which caused major changes in the content of this subject. Therefore, this course emphasizes the research on new urban social science and space, in order to have a clearer understanding of current and future urban development and research.
