自中世紀波隆那的羅馬法復興及其後的繼受以來，羅馬法的影響力隨著近代歐洲向外擴張及與世界各地持續接觸而不斷擴大，最終及於許多羅馬人未曾踏足之地，並成為現代各國法律體系共同的重要歷史淵源。不只在大陸法系/市民法系國家，甚至在英美/普通法系國家中，都可以看到羅馬法在這些現代法律制度之中之影響。課程首先介紹羅馬法史以及法學的分期。接著依循 Gaius《法學階梯》的體系順序，探討人法（即人格與身份法），再介紹羅馬法上物權法與債權法的內容，最後簡要說明訴訟制度及若干重要訴訟類型。
課程內容不僅著重概念與制度的理解，亦會以現代法的觀點進行比較與省思，協助學生建立跨法系的視野，並為民法以及法比較研究等不同法領域奠定堅實基礎。無需具備先備知識，也不需具備拉丁文閱讀能力，歡迎大學部以及研究所各年級的學生選修。

Since the revival of Roman law in Bologna in the Middle Ages and its subsequent inheritance, the influence of Roman law has continued to expand with the outward expansion of modern Europe and its continued contact with other parts of the world. It eventually reached many places where the Romans had never set foot, and became an important historical source common to the legal systems of modern countries. Not only in civil law/civil law countries, but also in Anglo-American/common law countries, the influence of Roman law can be seen in these modern legal systems. The course first introduces the history of Roman law and the periodization of jurisprudence. Then, following the systematic sequence of Gaius' "Ladder of Laws", we discuss personal law (i.e., personality and identity law), then introduce the content of property law and debt law in Roman law, and finally briefly explain the litigation system and several important types of litigation.
The course content not only focuses on the understanding of concepts and systems, but also comparison and reflection from the perspective of modern law, helping students establish a cross-legal perspective and laying a solid foundation for different legal fields such as civil law and comparative legal studies. No prior knowledge or Latin reading ability is required. Students of all grades in undergraduate and graduate schools are welcome to take this course.
