Sociology of Paranormal Experience and Paranormal Narrative

Course Target

Under the rationalist bias of traditional social science, "supernatural" is often reduced to superstition or pathological phenomena. The teaching strategy of this course aims to intervene in this marginal field and transform spiritual problems into rigorous sociological research objects. We do not explore the metaphysical authenticity of the phenomenon itself, but examine its intertwining process with social reality as a cultural narrative. For sociology students, this is not only an expansion of the academic field, but also an in-depth identification of "invisibility" and "marginal subjects" in contemporary society. By temporarily sealing (methodological agnosticism) the assumption of the existence of the supernatural (the divine or the supernatural), researchers can achieve complete independence from traditional theological premises, and instead focus on describing the flow of phenomena presented in consciousness, guiding students to explore the sociological implications of supernatural experiences and supernatural narratives.
