燃料電池(Fuel cell)被認為是廿一世紀最重要的十大科技之一,是達成2050年淨零減碳排放非常重要的發電技術之一,這是因為燃料電池產電過程,僅生成水或少許的二氧化碳,對環境是非常友善的綠色能源轉換裝置,其中高分子電解質燃料電池(PEMFC)由於運作於室溫,使這類燃料電池可應用於移動式或可攜式電源,甚至是分散式發電機,目前已有許多應用發表如Toyota於2015、2020年生產的第一代及第二代燃料電池車(Mirai),另外也有韓國Hyundai公司生產的NEXO Fuel cell car等。本課程藉由圖像方式介紹燃料電池之基本組成元件、觸媒技術、高分子電解質、元件設計、燃料電池組設計、燃料電池分析技術及未來發展,使學生對燃料電池有深入的認識,並激發對相關研究的興趣,同時利用相關技術協助研究、設計、及製作燃料電池元件。為讓學生對燃料電池有具體的認識並提升學生的動手實作能力,課程會教導學生製作一個燃料電池,並進行發電測試作為期末的成果發表及評量。
本課程前12週為基礎理論與專業知識的建構,第13至18週為實作探究的課程,學生必須動手實作電極包括網印塗佈電極、膜電極製作、組裝單電極、電極活化與測試及燃料電池製作。學生必須學習燃料電測試機台的操作,才能作電極或膜電極組的性能測試。每次實作課程,老師或助教會先說明原理及相關實驗步驟與注意事項,示範操作一遍後再由學生動手操作,學生必須完成一個燃料電池製作並進行性能測試,最後須完成一份書面報告。如此可完成科學假設、驗證到提出報告的完整探究與實作過程。

Fuel cell car etc. This course uses images to introduce the basic components of fuel cells, catalyst technology, polymer electrolytes, component design, fuel cell stack design, fuel cell analysis technology and future development, so that students can have an in-depth understanding of fuel cells and stimulate their interest in related research. At the same time, relevant technologies can be used to assist in the research, design, and production of fuel cell components. In order to provide students with a specific understanding of fuel cells and improve students' hands-on practical abilities, the course will teach students to make a fuel cell and conduct a power generation test as a final publication and evaluation of results.
The first 12 weeks of this course are for the construction of basic theory and professional knowledge, and the 13th to 18th weeks are practical exploration courses. Students must practice electrodes including screen printing and coating electrodes, membrane electrode production, assembling single electrodes, electrode activation and testing, and fuel cell production. Students must learn the operation of a fuel cell testing machine before they can conduct performance testing of electrodes or membrane electrode groups. In each practical course, the teacher or assistant will first explain the principles and related experimental steps and precautions. After demonstrating the operation, students will start to operate it. Students must complete a fuel cell production and perform performance testing, and finally complete a written report. In this way, the complete exploration and implementation process from scientific hypothesis to verification to report submission can be completed.
