Masculinity in American Literary Studies
教育目標 Course Target
This seminar examines how American literature and culture construct and contest masculinities. Moving beyond essentialist ideas of manhood, we investigate the historical, racial, sexual, and class-based negotiations through which masculine identities are produced and performed. Readings range from canonical to contemporary works—fiction, theory, and film—linking the male body to broader discourses of nationalism, capitalism, empire, and sexuality.
