本課程以中國古典小說為核心，透過系統性引導，使修課同學能掌握古典小說領域相關基礎概念。另外，本課程期望透過研究方法實際訓練，培養批判思考及獨立研究之學術能力。具體內容由四部分組成，包括：學術史回顧、學術資源應用、文獻研讀分析、研究論文撰寫等，茲分述如下：
學術史回顧：透過小說學術史總覽式回顧，當有助初學者儘早掌握小說研究發展概況與當前主要研究課題，乃進入該領域不可或缺之敲門磚。
學術資源應用：本項著重傳統工具書介紹與新興數位資源操作，能嫻熟掌握善用，對開展研究洵有事半功倍之效，乃亟需具備之基礎能力。
文獻研讀分析：研讀若干具代表性之學術文獻，可培養學術敏銳度，能大略掌握特定議題當前研究成果，研讀過程亦可作為學習仿效之方向。
研究論文撰寫：修課同學於期末繳交論文格式完備之研究論文一份，作為探索古典小說領域之嘗試，亦作為驗證學習成果之參考。

This course takes Chinese classical novels as its core. Through systematic guidance, students can master the basic concepts related to the field of classical novels. In addition, this course hopes to cultivate academic abilities in critical thinking and independent research through practical training in research methods. The specific content consists of four parts, including: review of academic history, application of academic resources, literature reading and analysis, writing of research papers, etc., which are summarized as follows:
Review of academic history: An overview review of the academic history of novels can help beginners grasp the development overview of novel research and current major research topics as early as possible, which is an indispensable stepping stone to enter this field.
Application of academic resources: This item focuses on the introduction of traditional reference books and the operation of emerging digital resources. Being able to master and utilize them skillfully will have the effect of getting twice the result with half the effort in conducting research, which is an urgently needed basic ability.
Literature reading analysis: Studying a number of representative academic documents can cultivate academic acumen and roughly grasp the current research results on specific topics. The reading process can also serve as a direction for learning and imitation.
Research paper writing: Students taking the course will submit a research paper with a complete format at the end of the semester as an attempt to explore the field of classical novels and as a reference for verifying learning results.
