Transform Emotions to Your Inner Strength
Course Target
Human emotions play an important role in self-understanding, interpersonal relationships, communication and interaction, and life growth. Emotions are not just how we feel internally; they also influence how we understand ourselves, how we respond to others, how we face conflict, and how we build healthy and meaningful relationships. Emotional intelligence quotient (EQ) includes the ability to identify, understand, label, express and regulate emotions. It is an important life ability for college students when facing study, family, friendship, intimate relationships and future career.
This course will start from emotions, self-understanding, love and relationships and explore the following questions: What are emotions? What is true love? Why are we often hurt by the people we care about most? How do our attachment patterns and upbringing experiences affect our emotional responses and relationship patterns? How can we understand ourselves more maturely and respond more wisely to others when faced with anger, hurt, conflict, and misunderstanding?
Course content will incorporate emotional intelligence theory, love languages, attachment theory, narrative psychology, conflict and repair in relationships, and emotion management tools. Students will learn to build an emotional vocabulary, practice identifying and describing inner feelings, understand the needs and stories behind emotions, and apply what they learn to individuals, families, friendships, love and group interactions through class discussions, reflective writing, case analysis and practical exercises.
The goal of this course is to help students improve their self-awareness and emotional management abilities, and develop their abilities of empathetic listening, clear expression, constructive conflict, perspective taking, forgiveness, gratitude and win-win communication. It is expected that by the end of the semester, students will not only have a better understanding of how emotions affect themselves, but also be able to manage relationships more responsibly, transforming emotions into the power to understand themselves, connect with others, face challenges, and continue to grow.
