媒體識讀就是認識和解讀媒體的能力，並以培養有批判力、思考力的主動閱聽人為最終目標。
媒體含括了所有文字及圖片的印刷品、廣告、電視、電影、網站、電動玩具等。
培養媒體識讀能力前，你對於媒體必須具備5點基本的認知：
(1)媒體資訊是被建構而成的。
(2)媒體資訊有其特殊的語言及建構系統。
(3)因為種族和文化等差異，不同的人對同樣的媒體資訊，都有不同的詮釋方式。
(4.媒體資訊大多有其商機和利益的考量。
(5)媒體資訊一定有其本身的價值觀和觀點。
媒體識讀教育的觀念最早由如何欣賞電影和節目製作發源，到了70年代以對媒體被濫用的覺醒與批判，到目前對媒體的瞭解與分析為主軸。
在這個資訊爆炸的時代，人們把媒體當成獲得資訊的方便管道，但媒體所傳達之訊息經過建構後與事實產生落差有，觀眾們應具備媒體識讀能力才能當個耳聰目明的閱聽人，不被媒體左右。

Media literacy is the ability to understand and interpret media, with the ultimate goal of cultivating active readers with critical and thinking skills.
Media includes all text and pictures in print, advertising, television, movies, websites, electronic toys, etc.
Before developing media literacy skills, you must have 5 basic understandings of media:
(1) Media information is constructed.
(2) Media information has its own special language and construction system.
(3) Due to differences in race and culture, different people interpret the same media information in different ways.

The concept of media literacy education first originated from how to appreciate movies and program production. In the 1970s, it was based on the awakening and criticism of the abuse of media, and now it is based on the understanding and analysis of media.
In this era of information explosion, people regard the media as a convenient channel to obtain information. However, the information conveyed by the media is constructed and there is a gap between it and the facts. Audiences should have media literacy skills in order to be smart readers and not be influenced by the media.
