教育目標 Course Target
本課程的內涵為介紹『文化中的數學底蘊』,從全新的觀點讓同學認識不同國家或民族的傳統文化(包括傳統建築、服裝飾品、食物包裝、生活用具、古老遊戲、傳統習俗與曆法等文化素材等等)中的數學意涵以及『民族數學(Ethnomathematics)』的實例與應用,提供同學對於文化與數學之連結有嶄新的認知。
在不同民族的傳統文化素材中,有許多充滿智慧、趣味、生活實用、與習俗信仰等的相關設計,這些古人的巧思並非他們研讀相關現代科學理論後所發展出來,卻在部落間可以流傳數百年。經過學者專家及授課教師近年來的研究,這些文化素材很多可以用現代的科學觀點加以詮釋,而且許多題材均有其數學底蘊,這也是一個結合人文與數學的新興領域-『民族數學』的主要研究內涵。維基百科中對於民族數學的定義是:『民族數學是對數學與文化之間關係的研究。它通常與“沒有書面表達的文化”相關,也可以定義為“在可識別的文化群體中實踐的數學”。民族數學的目標是促進對文化的理解和對數學的理解,主要是使人們認識到兩者之間的聯繫』。本課程之內涵即為一門融合民族文化、人文關懷與基礎數學概念的通識課程,並透過課堂講解、影音資料賞析、實際模擬體驗、專家學者線上演講、主題式小組作業等方式,讓同學對於數學在人類文明發展中所扮演的積極作用有全新的認識。
The content of this course is to introduce "mathematical heritage in culture", allowing students to understand the mathematical meanings in the traditional cultures of different countries or nations from a new perspective (including traditional architecture, clothing and accessories, food packaging, daily utensils, ancient games, traditional customs, calendars and other cultural materials, etc.) as well as examples and applications of "Ethnomathematics", providing students with a new understanding of the connection between culture and mathematics.
Among the traditional cultural materials of different ethnic groups, there are many related designs that are full of wisdom, interest, practical life, and customs and beliefs. These ingenious ideas of the ancients were not developed after they studied relevant modern scientific theories, but they can be passed down among tribes for hundreds of years. After recent research by scholars, experts and teachers, it has been found that many of these cultural materials can be interpreted using modern scientific perspectives, and many of the themes have mathematical connotations. This is also the main research connotation of "ethnomathematics", an emerging field that combines humanities and mathematics. The definition of ethnomathematics in Wikipedia is: "Ethnomathematics is the study of the relationship between mathematics and culture." It is often associated with "cultures without written expression" and may also be defined as "mathematics practiced within an identifiable cultural group". The goal of ethnomathematics is to promote cultural understanding and mathematical understanding, primarily to make people aware of the connection between the two. The essence of this course is that it is a general course that integrates national culture, humanistic care and basic mathematical concepts. Through classroom explanations, audio-visual material appreciation, practical simulation experiences, online lectures by experts and scholars, themed group assignments, etc., students will have a new understanding of the positive role that mathematics plays in the development of human civilization.
