教育目標 Course Target
社會階層化與社會流動的研究,長期以來一直是社會學的重要核心議題之一。我們對這些議題的認知,通常停留在新聞報導中常提到的貧富差距或公平與正義原則的層面,但對其他社會層面的關注(無論是運作機制還是結構性因素),卻往往在有意或無意間被忽略甚至淡化。而這些層面涵蓋了家庭背景、教育、勞動市場、性別、職業、收入、種族、宗教、居住地區、財富分配、以及休閒生活型態等等,即使細數難以窮盡,但皆構成理解社會階層化現象的重要面向。
本課程為通論型概述課程,旨在幫助同學對「社會階層」與「社會流動」有更加全面與廣泛的認識。在課程的前幾週,我們將首先介紹與階層與流動相關的理論觀點與概念,為討論鋪陳基礎。需要先建立一個基本的理解:社會階層化其實是一個不斷創造、維持與改變既有社會結構的過程,因此這一現象是動態且多變的。就如同水流般,會隨著渠道的方向(也就是外在於自身的社會環境與文化等)而持續改變其走向與樣貌。
在後續課程中,我們將針對不同主題進行深入探討與分析,包括:家庭背景、教育、勞動市場、性別、職業與收入的不均、風險、健康不平等,以及個人對社會階層的主觀認知等議題,試圖更具體地剖析社會層面中的差異與動態結構。
透過這門課程,我希望同學們能對社會不同面向的差異、不均與不公平現象,甚至階層化背後的機制與影響因素,有更深入的理解。同時,透過結合同學們的個人經歷、社會觀察,以及課堂專題報告的討論,鼓勵大家在學習過程中激盪出更多元、多樣的想法,從而對這些複雜的社會現象形成更全面而深刻的認知。
The study of social stratification and social mobility has long been one of the important core topics in sociology. Our understanding of these issues usually remains at the level of the gap between rich and poor or the principles of fairness and justice that are often mentioned in news reports, but attention to other social aspects (whether operating mechanisms or structural factors) is often ignored or even downplayed, intentionally or unintentionally. These aspects cover family background, education, labor market, gender, occupation, income, race, religion, residential area, wealth distribution, leisure lifestyle, etc. Even though the details are difficult to exhaust, they all constitute an important aspect for understanding the phenomenon of social stratification.
This course is a general overview course, aiming to help students gain a more comprehensive and extensive understanding of "social class" and "social mobility". In the first few weeks of the course, we will first introduce theoretical perspectives and concepts related to class and mobility to lay the groundwork for discussion. We need to first establish a basic understanding: social stratification is actually a process of constantly creating, maintaining and changing existing social structures, so this phenomenon is dynamic and changeable. Just like water, it will continue to change its direction and appearance according to the direction of the channel (that is, the social environment and culture external to itself).
In subsequent courses, we will conduct in-depth discussions and analyzes on different topics, including: family background, education, labor market, gender, occupational and income inequality, risks, health inequality, and individuals’ subjective perceptions of social class, etc., in an attempt to more specifically analyze the differences and dynamic structures at the social level.
Through this course, I hope that students will have a deeper understanding of the differences, disparities and unfairness in different aspects of society, and even the mechanisms and influencing factors behind stratification. At the same time, by combining students’ personal experiences, social observations, and discussions of class reports, everyone is encouraged to stir up more diverse and diverse ideas in the learning process, thereby forming a more comprehensive and profound understanding of these complex social phenomena.
