文化研究關注日常生活，試圖從這些日常感受反應，理解當中的社會、歷史、文化脈絡，而情感或情緒反應看似屬個人心理的狀態，卻也是現代社會關注的問題，既是社會文化如何滲入並體現在個體當中，也是個體又如何牽動著社會文化的轉變。本課程首先介紹為何情感在現代社會成為重要的議題。第二部分以資本主義和新自由主義為主題，探討資本主義如何形塑情感，並進一步探討新自由主義如何打造中產階級的意識型態和情感，尤其透過「正向情感」的產業形塑資本主義的正向主體。第三部分則探討東亞壓縮現代社會下，這樣的正向情感如何透過家庭和母職中介，加強中產想像和新自由主義的成功情感主體建構，同時也帶來了「幸福承諾」的焦慮和厭世。第四部分進而介紹壞情感的抵抗性，像是酷兒壞情感怎麼作為一種回應正向、個人化的政治，以及哀悼的情感如何連結自我和集體，以回應去歷史、去政治、個人化的當代處境情。同時，本課程除了介紹學生認識情感的文化政治理論與分析，也培養學生從文化政治的角度，批判地理解特定社會與公共議題，因此期中提案與期末報告將邀請學生自行選擇感興趣的議題，本課程也透過介紹如何分析情感，尤其從日常文化和Raymond Williams提出的「情感結構」，作為學生分析當代情感政治的框架。

Cultural studies focus on daily life, trying to understand the social, historical, and cultural context from these daily feelings and reactions. Emotions or emotional reactions may seem to be personal psychological states, but they are also a concern of modern society. They are not only how social culture penetrates and is reflected in individuals, but also how individuals affect the transformation of social culture. This course first introduces why emotions have become an important issue in modern society. The second part takes capitalism and neoliberalism as the theme, exploring how capitalism shapes emotions, and further explores how neoliberalism creates the ideology and emotions of the middle class, especially through the "positive emotion" industry to shape the positive subject of capitalism. The third part explores how in the compressed modern society of East Asia, such positive emotions, through the intermediary of family and motherhood, strengthen the middle-class imagination and neoliberal construction of successful emotional subjects, while also bringing about the anxiety and misanthropy of the "promise of happiness". The fourth part further introduces the resistance of bad emotions, such as how queer bad emotions serve as a response to positive and personal politics, and how the emotion of mourning connects the self and the collective in response to the dehistorical, depoliticized, and personal contemporary situation. At the same time, in addition to introducing students to the cultural and political theory and analysis of emotion, this course also trains students to critically understand specific social and public issues from the perspective of cultural politics. Therefore, midterm proposals and final reports will invite students to choose topics of interest. This course also introduces how to analyze emotions, especially from daily culture and the "emotional structure" proposed by Raymond Williams, as a framework for students to analyze contemporary emotional politics.
