心智是什麼？它與大腦有何不同？如同許多哲學探究一樣，這些問題比初看之下更為錯綜複雜。本課程介紹心智哲學中的基本議題。我們將探索受心理學、神經科學及相關領域之歷史與當代發展所影響的問題。然而，本課程的焦點仍明確地以哲學為核心。我們將探討各種問題，包括心智本質的探究、心智如何與世界互動，以及我們是否能以科學方式解釋意識。具體而言，我們將討論：心智或心理狀態是什麼？心理狀態能否以解釋物理事物的相同方式加以說明？我們真的能知道他人的感受或經驗嗎？感官經驗與思想之間的關係為何？何謂「人」，以及在什麼條件下一個人得以持續存在？

What is mind? How is it different from the brain? Like many philosophical inquiries, these questions are more intricate than they first appear. This course introduces fundamental issues in philosophy of mind. We will explore issues influenced by historical and contemporary developments in psychology, neuroscience, and related fields. However, the focus of this course remains clearly philosophical at its core. We will explore a variety of questions, including the inquiry into the nature of the mind, how the mind interacts with the world, and whether we can explain consciousness scientifically. Specifically, we will discuss: What is a mind or psychological state? Can mental states be explained in the same way that physical things are explained? Can we really know what others are feeling or experiencing? What is the relationship between sensory experience and thought? What is "person" and under what conditions does a person continue to exist?
