教育目標 Course Target

1. 課程總學習目標:
學生將學習材料體驗設計(Material Driven Design, MDD)的核心原則,理解其在設計運用、商業價值及永續發展中的應用;運用設計案例探討與設計參與方法,提出創新且能滿足材料特質與議題需求的設計方案;同時結合More than Human Design的理念,探討材料、人類與環境自然的合作關係,以應對永續設計價值的實際挑戰。

課程概述:
材料不只是設計的媒介,更是人類與世界溝通的語言。
本課程從材料的感官意義出發,引導學生建立材料設計的系統性思維,涵蓋材料分析工具(MDD)、數位製造、GenAI輔助設計、商業應用與永續倫理等當代核心議題。課程以線上非同步講授為主,搭配同步討論與業師對談,並透過貫穿整學期的材料觀察日記,培養學生從日常生活中持續發現材料設計機會的能力。學期末透過完整設計提案,展現從材料研究到設計概念的整合思考。

課程大綱:
1. 理解材料意義:建立學生對材料的基本認識與感知能力,從材料與人類感官、文化記憶、設計價值的關係出發,幫助學生理解材料不僅是物理性質的載體,更具設計意義傳達與使用者溝通價值。
2. 材料設計應用:聚焦於設計實踐工具與方法的建立,從數位製造、AI輔助、研究方法到商業脈絡與展覽溝通,幫助學生將材料知識轉化為具體可執行的設計提案,並學習如何有效溝通設計意圖。
3. 人類與環境關係探討:引導學生從更大的視角思考材料設計的責任,從永續循環、倫理意識到未來趨勢預測,幫助學生建立設計師對人類、自然與社會的責任感,並將這些思考整合進設計提案的論述中。

1. Overall learning objectives of the course:
Students will learn the core principles of Material Driven Design (MDD) and understand its application in design application, commercial value and sustainable development; use design case discussion and design participation methods to propose innovative design solutions that meet the needs of material characteristics and issues; at the same time, combined with the concept of More than Human Design, they will explore the cooperative relationship between materials, humans and the natural environment to meet the practical challenges of sustainable design value.

Course Overview:
Materials are not only a medium for design, but also a language for humans to communicate with the world.
Starting from the sensory meaning of materials, this course guides students to establish systematic thinking in material design, covering contemporary core issues such as materials analysis tools (MDD), digital manufacturing, GenAI-assisted design, commercial applications, and sustainable ethics. The course is mainly based on online asynchronous lectures, with synchronous discussions and dialogues with industry teachers, and through material observation diaries throughout the semester, students will be able to continuously discover material design opportunities from their daily lives. At the end of the semester, a complete design proposal will demonstrate integrated thinking from material research to design concepts.

Course Outline:
1. Understand the meaning of materials: Establish students' basic understanding and perception of materials. Starting from the relationship between materials and human senses, cultural memory, and design value, help students understand that materials are not only carriers of physical properties, but also have value in conveying design meaning and communicating with users.
2. Material design application: Focus on the establishment of design practice tools and methods, from digital manufacturing, AI assistance, research methods to business context and exhibition communication, helping students transform material knowledge into specific executable design proposals, and learn how to effectively communicate design intentions.
3. Discussion of the relationship between humans and the environment: Guide students to think about the responsibility of material design from a larger perspective, predict future trends from sustainable recycling, ethical awareness, help students establish designers' sense of responsibility for humans, nature and society, and integrate these thoughts into the discussion of design proposals.
