Educational Applications of Positive Psychology
Course Target
Be bright. Be you. Be someone’s light!
This course takes Positive Psychology as the core of the professional discipline and combines it with the systematic structure of Social and Emotional Learning (hereinafter referred to as SEL) to design a learning course that "not only teaches knowledge, but also accompanies growth." The course not only focuses on the research development and trends of positive psychology, but more importantly, how students can gradually develop inner abilities that can support themselves throughout their lives in real life.
"Positive Psychology" provides scientific theories and empirical evidence on happiness, strengths, meaning, and resilience, while "SEL" allows these theories to be learned, practiced, and lived out. Therefore, the greatest feature of this course is that it consciously embeds the five core SEL competencies: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, interpersonal skills, and responsible decision-making into the learning process of positive psychology, so that students not only understand the theory, but can transform what they learn into concrete actions in daily life.
In terms of teaching design, the course will use case teaching methods, Problem-Based Learning (PBL), group dialogues, reflective writing and practical exercises to guide students to understand themselves, build self-confidence, learn to think differently and understand others, develop healthy interpersonal relationships, and gradually accumulate their own psychological capital when facing challenges and uncertainties. Sufficient time will be reserved for exercises and group conversations in class, and students’ reflections and growth records after class are particularly critical. Because truly important learning often occurs in the process of "thinking things over slowly" and "having a good conversation with each other."
In addition, in the content design of this course, biblical verses and biblical stories will be appropriately quoted as one of the narrative materials for life education, value reflection and psychological growth. These texts will be used as discussion cases for case teaching and PBL teaching methods, presented in the form of stories, metaphors and reflection resources, rather than religious requirements or belief norms. The curriculum respects each student's faith background and life stance. Students can interpret freely according to their own feelings. There is no need to have a religious background, nor is faith identity used as the basis for any evaluation. Relevant content will also be clearly presented in the course syllabus, allowing students to fully understand and make their own choices before choosing courses.
Overall, this course is expected to be a learning journey of support and companionship, helping students establish a more stable sense of self-worth, a gentler and firmer inner strength during the learning stage, and learn how to live the happiness and kindness they have learned into their lives and bring them into relationships.
Because happiness can be learned and inner strength can be cultivated.
And every record of your efforts, reflections and growth in this course will be transformed into stronger psychological capital to accompany you further.
Be bright. Be you. Be someone’s light!
