Health Inequalities and Social Justice

教育目標 Course Target

健康並非僅由生物因素與個人選擇所決定,還深受社會結構、文化脈絡與政治經濟條件所形塑。本課程以健康不平等(Health Inequalities)與影響健康的社會決定因素(Social Determinants of Health)為核心主題,探討不同社會群體在健康狀況、疾病風險與醫療資源可及性上的差異,並以社會正義作為分析基礎,理解健康差距如何在生命歷程中累積,並透過制度與政策安排被維持或擴大。
課程採微觀至巨觀的層次架構,從壓力與早期經驗如何影響身心健康出發,延伸至社區與社會網絡的作用,進一步分析收入分配、教育機會、工作條件、住房制度與種族化政策等結構性因素,最後討論政治權力、氣候變遷與環境風險分配對健康公平的影響。透過理論閱讀、實證研究與在地案例的整合,本課程旨在培養學生以多層次視角理解健康不平等,並發展具批判性與行動導向的分析能力。

Health is not only determined by biological factors and personal choices, but is also deeply shaped by social structure, cultural context, and political and economic conditions. This course takes Health Inequalities and Social Determinants of Health as its core themes. It explores the differences in health status, disease risk, and access to medical resources among different social groups. It uses social justice as the basis of analysis to understand how health disparities accumulate over the life course and are maintained or expanded through systems and policy arrangements.
The course adopts a micro- to macro-level structure, starting from how stress and early experience affect physical and mental health, extending to the role of communities and social networks, and further analyzing structural factors such as income distribution, educational opportunities, working conditions, housing systems, and racialized policies. Finally, it discusses the impact of political power, climate change, and environmental risk distribution on health equity. Through the integration of theoretical readings, empirical research and local cases, this course aims to cultivate students' understanding of health inequalities from a multi-level perspective and develop critical and action-oriented analytical skills.
