教育目標 Course Target

本課程主要為教授系統動力學(system dynamics),培養研究生建構與分析環境系統模型之能力。課程從系統性思考(system thinking)出發,介紹因果回饋結構、正負回饋環路與動態行為模式,使學生理解複雜環境議題背後的非線性互動與結構性問題。進一步說明存量與流量(stock and flow)、回饋機制、時間滯延(time delay)等基本構件,並透過軟體操作與數值模擬,建立動態建模的實作基礎。

課程中將依教材架構,逐步說明系統動力學模型的建構流程,包括問題界定、因果環路圖(causal loop diagram, CLD)繪製、存量流量模型轉換、參數設定與函數設計,並結合政策模擬與情境分析,使學生理解模型如何應用於環境管理與政策評估。透過應用模型與系統基模(system archetypes)的介紹與模擬,學生將學習辨識常見動態結構,如成長極限、轉移負擔與悲劇性共用資源等,並分析這些基模對環境與資源管理的啟示。

此外,課程亦強調模型效度檢驗(model validation)與建模倫理,說明結構檢驗、行為重現與敏感度分析等方法,以確保模型結果之合理性與政策解釋力。期中與期末報告將要求學生針對實際環境或永續議題建立動態模型,進行模擬與政策分析,培養獨立建模與系統分析能力。本課程旨在使學生具備從系統觀點分析環境問題、設計政策情境並評估其長期影響之專業能力,為後續研究與實務應用奠定理論與方法基礎。

This course mainly teaches system dynamics and cultivates graduate students' ability to construct and analyze environmental system models. Starting from systemic thinking, the course introduces causal feedback structures, positive and negative feedback loops, and dynamic behavior patterns, allowing students to understand the nonlinear interactions and structural issues behind complex environmental issues. Further explain the basic components such as stock and flow, feedback mechanism, time delay, etc., and establish the implementation basis of dynamic modeling through software operation and numerical simulation.

The course will follow the textbook structure and gradually explain the construction process of the system dynamics model, including problem definition, causal loop diagram (CLD) drawing, stock-to-flow model conversion, parameter setting and function design, combined with policy simulation and situation analysis, so that students can understand how the model is applied to environmental management and policy evaluation. Through the introduction and simulation of application models and system archetypes, students will learn to identify common dynamic structures, such as growth limits, burden shifting, and tragic resource sharing, and analyze the implications of these archetypes for environmental and resource management.

In addition, the course also emphasizes model validation and modeling ethics, explaining methods such as structural testing, behavioral reproduction, and sensitivity analysis to ensure the rationality and policy explanation of model results. Midterm and final reports will require students to build dynamic models for actual environments or sustainability issues, conduct simulations and policy analysis, and develop independent modeling and system analysis abilities. This course aims to equip students with the professional ability to analyze environmental issues from a systemic perspective, design policy scenarios and evaluate their long-term impacts, laying a theoretical and methodological foundation for subsequent research and practical applications.
