Fish Diversity Across Time and Space

Course Target

English:This course serves as an introduction to vertebrate paleontology. In addition to learning the names and significance—both geological and evolutionary—of key fossil groups, we’ll also explore fossil assemblages found locally as case studies. The goal is to help students understand how fossil evidence contributes to building phylogenetic relationships among organisms, how it shapes the way we think about biological classification systems today, and where this traditional field fits within the broader scientific landscape.

Chinese: It can be regarded as an introduction to vertebrate paleontology. In addition to understanding important fossil names and their geological and evolutionary significance, it also combines locally produced fossil clusters as examples for research. This course expects students to understand how fossil data can help us establish the genetic and evolutionary relationships of biological taxa, the thinking of the current biological classification structure, and the positioning of this traditional subject in the scientific field.
