此課程以台灣的城鎮聚落等地理空間作為對象，除了教授這些空間如何在歷史變化中積累其特質至當代，並說明其背後的社會結構與社群意識與價值。具體上來說，是以代表性的傳統農村聚落、傳統商業聚落、以及原住民聚落等作為主要授課的內容，除了讓修習者能夠認識台灣的傳統空間外，也探討這些空間與當代社會發展上衝突與齟齬。課堂也讓學生充分討論與提出這空間背後的問題，試想其空間本質與社會價值如何得以永續，並與當代社會的發展共生。
　　除此之外，此課程也嘗試以美國與日本的城鄉永續問題做為借鏡，除了認識且學習海外的社會永續經驗外，也思考這些經驗是否可以橫向移植，試著找出轉化這些在台灣施行的可能性。
　　課程的目標:
甲、使修習者認識台灣城鄉空間的形成與積累，並理解其背後的社會結構與共識價值
乙、讓修習者充分分析討論當代社會發展與傳統空間上的衝突齟齬，並藉由討論試圖找出共生可能
丙、使修習者具有國際公民的意識，並思考自身的特質與參與社會永續的可能

Course objectives:
A. To enable practitioners to understand the formation and accumulation of urban and rural space in Taiwan, and to understand the social structure and consensus value behind it
B. Let practitioners fully analyze and discuss the conflicts between contemporary social development and traditional space, and try to find the possibility of symbiosis through discussion
C. To enable practitioners to have an awareness of international citizenship and to think about their own characteristics and the possibility of participating in social sustainability
