身體社會學

一、課程目標:

關於身體的文化與社會理論涵蓋很廣,80年代開始,文化研究、女性主義理論、社會學、醫療社會學、STS等研究中,已經有許多豐富研究成果與討論。早期社會學理論主要反對生物化約論與生物決定論,並認為身體是社會建構的場域。80 年代,英美社會學者開始質疑社會學研究根本上忽略身體議題以及身體的物質性等問題,並指出身體社會學需要關注於「具體化」議題(embodiment)。
本課程以「身體社會學」命名,會介紹身體社會學包含的各種議題,包括:勞動身體、健身與美感、整形美容、身體社會理論、身體/心靈療癒等議題。課程鼓勵同學將生活經驗帶入討論,會對於特定身體相關主題進行專題研究,例如:刺青、健身房、時尚、韓國流行文化等。

1. Course objectives:

Cultural and social theories about the body cover a wide range. Since the 1980s, there have been many rich research results and discussions in cultural studies, feminist theory, sociology, medical sociology, STS and other studies. Early sociological theory mainly opposed biological reductionism and biological determinism, and believed that the body is a socially constructed field. In the 1980s, British and American sociologists began to question sociological research's fundamental neglect of body issues and the materiality of the body, and pointed out that the sociology of the body needs to focus on "embodiment" issues.
This course is named after "Sociology of the Body" and will introduce various issues included in the sociology of the body, including: working body, fitness and beauty, plastic surgery, body social theory, body/mind healing and other issues. The course encourages students to bring life experiences into discussions and conduct special research on specific body-related topics, such as tattoos, gyms, fashion, Korean pop culture, etc.
