社會科學研究旨在探索,描述與解釋人類的社會生活。不論是對社會生活中的何 種面向(如股票操作、心理健康、投票行為等),社會科學研究者們竭盡所能地對該 議題作出系統性分析,甚至去挖掘隱藏在該議題之下,一般人們視而不見的過程,模 式和因果關係。社會科學研究者並非依靠個人觀察、主觀意見、或傳統的刻板印象來 對關注的社會現象進行詮釋與分析。相反地,任何的社會科學宣稱與研究結論都需透 過具有邏輯性與實證性的研究步驟來逐步生成。因此,社會科學研究方法就是社會研 究的骨幹。唯有奠基在嚴謹扎實的研究方法之上,社會研究的結論才有其科學性價值 與具參考性的意義。基此,本課程將對社會科學的常見研究過程與相關概念進行系列 性的介紹與討論,並重視由做中學的過程,來培養對調查方法的體悟與融會貫通,故 將扣緊調查研究的步驟來進行一學年的課程安排。
第一學期聚焦在方法學導論、理論與方法間的關係、研究議題、文獻回顧與蒐集、 研究設計、與概念化與操作化等基礎性議題,並以小組形式,透過社會學資料庫(台 灣社會變遷基本調查:七期五次社會不平等組;八期一次環境組)的「專題演練」, 來培養學生在問卷設計的視野與經驗。第二學期則著重問卷設計、抽樣原理、資料的 蒐集與推論性分析等單元,並由小組延續第一學期的方向,自行發展、設計小組的 「專題調查」,來實際展演調查方法的技藝與研究成果。本課程要求同學們藉由兩階 段的專題實作,來進行具體的實證性研究,以確實了解調查方法的概念與優缺點、養 成獨立思考與研究執行能力、與為未來研究與就業奠定基礎。

Social science research aims to explore, describe and explain human social life. No matter what aspect of social life (such as stock operations, mental health, voting behavior, etc.), social science researchers do their best to systematically analyze the issue, and even dig out the processes, patterns and causal relationships hidden under the issue that most people turn a blind eye to. Social science researchers do not rely on personal observations, subjective opinions, or traditional stereotypes to interpret and analyze the social phenomena of concern. On the contrary, any social science claims and research conclusions need to be gradually generated through logical and empirical research steps. Therefore, social science research methods are the backbone of social research. Only if they are based on rigorous and solid research methods can the conclusions of social research have scientific value and reference significance. Based on this, this course will conduct a series of introductions and discussions on common research processes and related concepts in social sciences, and attaches great importance to the process of learning by doing to cultivate understanding and mastery of investigation methods. Therefore, the course arrangement for one academic year will be based on the steps of investigation and research.
The first semester focuses on basic topics such as introduction to methodology, the relationship between theory and method, research topics, literature review and collection, research design, and conceptualization and operationalization. In group form, students will develop their vision and experience in questionnaire design through "thematic exercises" in the sociology database (Basic Survey of Social Change in Taiwan: five social inequality groups in the seventh period; one environmental group in the eighth period). The second semester focuses on units such as questionnaire design, sampling principles, data collection and inferential analysis. The group continues the direction of the first semester and develops and designs the group's "thematic investigation" to actually demonstrate the skills and research results of survey methods. This course requires students to conduct specific empirical research through two-stage project implementation to truly understand the concepts and advantages and disadvantages of investigation methods, develop independent thinking and research execution capabilities, and lay the foundation for future research and employment.
