眾所周知，西方倫理學中以三大理論最具代表性：亞里斯多德的德行倫理學、康德的義務論，以及效益主義。這些理論關心二個主要問題：「關於我們應該如何生活」及「我們應該如何對待他人」。佛教同樣深切探討這兩個問題，因此佛教倫理學與西方倫理傳統之間，存在著豐富而有意義的對話空間。本課程前半段將介紹佛教的基本倫理觀，包括因果業報、戒律思想等核心概念。後半段則聚焦於當代重要的倫理議題，討論正反雙方的主要立場與論證，例如：素食、安樂死、墮胎、自殺等。同時，我們會分析佛教思想對這些議題的可能回應，並探討其理由是否更接近西方倫理學的某一個傳統（德行、義務或效益論）。最後，此課程歡迎任何對佛教哲學及當代倫理議題有興趣的學員一起來參與。

As we all know, three major theories are the most representative in Western ethics: Aristotle’s virtue ethics, Kant’s deontology, and utilitarianism. These theories are concerned with two main questions: "How we should live" and "How we should treat others." Buddhism explores these two questions equally deeply, so there is room for rich and meaningful dialogue between Buddhist ethics and the Western ethical tradition. The first half of this course will introduce the basic ethical concepts of Buddhism, including core concepts such as cause and effect, karma, and precepts. The second half focuses on important contemporary ethical issues, discussing the main positions and arguments of the pros and cons, such as vegetarianism, euthanasia, abortion, suicide, etc. At the same time, we will analyze the possible responses of Buddhist thought to these issues and explore whether its reasons are closer to a certain tradition of Western ethics (virtue, duty or utility theory). Finally, this course welcomes any students who are interested in Buddhist philosophy and contemporary ethical issues to participate.
