Open Design
Course Target
This course echoes the "Open Design The core interpretation of open design in "Now": "Design no longer belongs only to designers, but to everyone who can participate in the production process." Under this premise, the course regards design as a carrier of cross-domain dialogue. Through the introduction of digital manufacturing tools (such as stereolithography printing, robotic arms, 3D printing) and open design strategies, students can practice values such as "openness", "replicability", "shareability" and "local material regeneration" in practice.
The first unit of the course uses wax-like resin printing and metalworking casting technology to allow students to master the parametric modeling and high-resolution printing process, and understand the controllable chain of design from digital modeling to physical generation. The second unit introduces the program-controlled application of robotic arms, focusing on path planning, motion simulation and construction method development, and cultivating students' ability to control physical behaviors with algorithmic thinking. The third unit takes waste ceramic materials as the theme. Students will conduct research on the characteristics of recycled materials from the perspective of Material Driven Design, and reflect on the cultural, material and social issues of the materials themselves.
In addition to individual design implementations, students will also respond to "the social position and future imagination of open design" through the publication of design results, and then transform the learning of materials and techniques into critical and experimental creative actions.
