現當代藝術離開了重現自然的藝術信仰，將圖像與造型的意義訴諸於編碼及解碼(Encoding, Decoding)的過程，並且以符號學(Semiology)的角度來詮釋作品。本課程從材質的身體切入，爬梳作品與象徵、形式之間的交互關係，同時將現當代藝術中使用現成物(Ready-made)的手法與藝術中的符號論觀點相結合，培養研究生對創作中「概念內容」的表現能力。

Modern and contemporary art departs from the artistic belief of recreating nature, resorts to the process of encoding and decoding (Encoding, Decoding) for the meaning of images and shapes, and interprets works from the perspective of semiology. This course starts from the physical body of materials and explores the interactive relationship between works, symbols and forms. At the same time, it combines the use of ready-made objects in modern and contemporary art with the semiotic perspective in art to cultivate graduate students' ability to express "conceptual content" in creation.
