Emotions are often described as irrational psychological state. For example, we might say that someone “has lost his mind because of fear” or “will be overwhelmed by anger.” However, does emotion and reason really conflict? To explore the possible connection between emotion and reason, we look at the views of three thinkers: Edmund Husserl, Jean-Paul Sartre, and Sigmund Freud. However, students who choose classes should note that the current course planning may still change, and the specific course content and rating methods will be based on the instructions in the first class, so students are required to attend the first class.
According to the current course planning, we will first consider how Huthier argues that rationality involves the perception of value. Since the perception of value requires emotion, emotion can therefore be a rational activity. We then consider Saudi Arabia, which is deeply influenced by Houthier. Saudi Arabia also emphasizes the awareness of concern, but Saudi Arabia proposes a very different description of the role of emotion in consciousness. Finally, we turn the focus from consciousness to unconscious. We analyze the position of emotion in indeliberation through the verbal expression of Freud and think about the relationship between indeliberation and reason. When discussing Freud, we will particularly focus on Jonathan Lear's philosophical commentary.
