Natural Exploration with Scientific Method

Course Target

Did you know? Our daily actions, feelings, memories, and even learning new skills all rely on the brain working silently behind the scenes. Although the brain only accounts for 2% of the body's weight, it is one of the busiest and most mysterious organs in the body. This course will take you step by step to explore the structure and function of the brain from a scientific perspective, and how it affects our physical health. The course will start with the basic structure of the brain, introducing what each area of the brain is doing, how signals are transmitted between neurons, and how we receive sounds, images and touch from the outside world. You will learn how the central nervous system and peripheral nervous system work together to control movements, maintain balance, and how memories are formed.
In addition to these basic operations, we will also gain an in-depth understanding of various brain-related diseases, such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, stroke, and psychosomatic diseases, and understand how they occur, what impact they have on the body, and what treatments are currently available. We'll also talk about brain development, the nervous system's immune response, and the latest research on whether recovery is possible after brain injury.
This course does not require a medical or biological background. As long as you have a little curiosity about the human brain, technology, and future life, you are welcome to join. We will use images, videos, cases, and discussions to help you truly understand how this super-powerful "CPU" operates and think about the role neuroscience will play in the future world. Whether you are a brain fan in the sciences and engineering department, a technology fan in the humanities and social sciences department, or simply interested in the brain, this course will make you think: "So my brain is so cool!"
