人類的歷史，總是困惑於「稀有」的資源如何獲得、分配與累積？生活品質如何被影響與提昇？民主政治的機制如何影響社會的發展？資本主義的力量又如何趨動我們的選擇？何以有些國家的經濟能夠持續增長與繁榮，卻也有國家陷入停滯與貧困？等的相關問題，致使我們反復地討論政治與經濟之間相互纏繞的關系。
在這個課題裡，「政治」指涉一套以公權力為基礎的制度與行為，權威性地影響社會價值、市場資源與企業行為的配置，「經濟」則泛指一般經營運作的生產單位，藉由生產和交換過程以追求利潤的機制，本課程的目標，即在於協助同學瞭解政治與經濟的互動關係（Political Economy），及其相關的說法。
因而本課程的設計，首先從「政治」與「經濟」兩大基本概念的認識與比較出發，在經濟全球化的基礎上，逐步瞭解政治生活與經濟生活的性質、形式、效果與變革與互動關係，藉以討論此二者的互動對於個人生活、國家整體發展與社會運作的影響，期使同學能在整合性的政治經濟學理論基礎上，認識與討論我們的當下與未來。

Human history has always been confused about how to obtain, distribute and accumulate "rare" resources. How is the quality of life affected and improved? How do the mechanisms of democratic politics affect social development? How does the power of capitalism drive our choices? Why are some countries able to continue to grow and prosper economically while others fall into stagnation and poverty? and other related issues, leading us to repeatedly discuss the intertwined relationship between politics and economics.
In this topic, "politics" refers to a set of systems and behaviors based on public power, which authoritatively affects the allocation of social values, market resources, and corporate behavior. "Economy" generally refers to production units that operate in general operations, and the mechanism for pursuing profits through the production and exchange process. The goal of this course is to help students understand the interactive relationship between politics and economy (Political Economy), and its related terms.
Therefore, the design of this course starts from the understanding and comparison of the two basic concepts of "politics" and "economics". On the basis of economic globalization, we will gradually understand the nature, form, effect, change and interaction of political life and economic life, so as to discuss the impact of the interaction between the two on personal life, the overall development of the country and the operation of society. It is hoped that students can understand and discuss our present and future on the basis of integrated political economic theory.
